Field Trips & Farm Education
Pack a lunch and trade a day of classroom lessons for hands-on “field” work! Our farm hubs welcome groups of students of all age levels to visit our farms and experience eco and food systems firsthand. Visit us at Hillside Farm and the Longview Center for Agriculture from April 1 – November 15 for scheduled tours and tastings, tailored lessons, or service projects! We will accommodate off-season tours at our farms by request.
Farm Tasting Tour Visits (60 minutes) K-8 K-8

Make sure to bring farm-friendly shoes and clothes; lots of walking is required! At Longview there is an option of picking a pint of seasonal fruits or veggies; choices might be strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, tomatoes, or beets!

Digging in Farm Visits (90 minutes) K-8 K-8
Tour our farms and learn about the science of sustainability from the ground up! After a tour, take a hands-on approach to plant and soil science, composting, and the interdependence of nature with activities centered on growing and harvesting fresh food. Students will not only see all types of vegetables growing, but get their hands dirty with fun, educational activities! At Longview, students have the option to harvest their own pint of seasonal fruits or vegetables to take home with their new knowledge of their local food system!
$7 for Digging in Farm Visit, 10 student minimum
$9 for Digging in Farm Visit + Pick your own pint (available only at Longview)
Service Projects- Students
Come get your hands dirty with a youth service day project for 6th grade and up! Spend time in the fields alongside our farmers and reconnect with PA’s agricultural roots. Students may help build beds, plant vegetable starts, prepare the soil for planting, or whatever else the farm needs during their particular visit. Wear farm-friendly shoes and clothes and get ready to have fun and learn about farms by doing!
Hillside and Longview: $3-5 per student suggested donation; 10 person minimum
